KHANOM: Formerly called Muang Tranom, this town was founded during the reign of King U-thong, about 800 years ago. It was a center for navigation and sea-trade and a center of Buddhist cultural arts. During the the time of King Rama V, Khanom was relegated to a village under Ta-Saala District. But in 1959, it became a full-fledged district (town) of the province of Nakhon Sri Thammarat. |

PINK DOLPHIN WATCHING: In Thailand,Pink Dolphins can be found only in the Khanom coastline. Now an endangered specie, in which only one group is left, their number has dropped to about 25. The Pink Dolphins are thought to be a sub-specie of the Chinese white dolphin, a member of the Indo-Pacific humpback dolphin family. They are known for their bright pink colour. |

HAD KHANOM – MU KO THALETHAI: Soon to become a national park, it covers parts of Khlong Thong, Khlong Reng, Khao Ok, Khao Thong Not, Pa Khao Chai Son, Len Khlong Khanom, Khao Fee Hai, Khao Wang, Khao Krot, Chai Kram-Wat Pradu, Khao Hua Chang Forest and 8 islands namely, Ko Mut Tang, Ko Mut Kong, Ko Rap, Ko Hua Ta Khe, Ko Wang Nai, Ko Wang Nak, Ko Noi and Ko Ta Rai, all in Sichon and Khanom District, Nakhon Si Thammarat province, and Koh Samui District. KAO WANG THONG CAVE: It is about 25 kilometers away from Khanom and is one of the most awesome caves of the province. The cave has many large and small chambers, each with stalagmites and stalactites of odd sizes and shapes, like pagodas, dinosaurs, custard apples, and fried eggs. Some chambers can only be accessed by crawling or climbing, making it fun for visitors. |
